 Artist Statement: Patterns of Attraction
Nature, pattern and attraction inspire my artwork.  I am interested in how variations of pattern, both natural and artificial, function as forms of attraction. This particular interest is motivated by daily exposure to nature, fashion and decoration. My artwork explores the ways pattern can function to evoke interest, pleasure, desire or awareness. As a result, my art transforms into a detailed investigation of specific similarities between elements, forms and patterns that exist in the natural world and artificially created embellishment that humans select for adornment.

In this series, certain segments are specifically altered and mixed with correlating colors and patterns to create a fragmented composition. As part of my artistic style, I create a balance between opposing and attracting elements to create areas of both tension and relief. Realistic and suggestive line work, masculine and feminine characteristics, highly saturated and bare wood grain, natural and domestic imagery as well as formal and abstracted design are all present in my mixed media multi-paneled artwork.
